Among other promotions handed out on August 8th, Vasquez was promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel in the German Navy. This high level promotion was celebrated by Vasquez's comrades near the frontline city Diest as an unnamed senior officer announced the promotion at 1700 hours during a break in the fighting.
