damit mann es auch hier liest und mitbekommt:

During 2004 we've been putting together a strategy to bring the game back into the retail distribution channel. Since the launch of the "Readers' Choice Edition" in 2002, the majority of new players have been exposed to the game through free trial and sales offers on our website and those of partners such as "World War II" magazine. It has been a difficult challenge to find retail publishing opportunities.

Beyond Blitzkrieg
A plan has been developed which provides a way to re-introduce the game into retail. This will expose the game to a large market of potential players who have never heard of WWII Online. We have recently received a commitment from a computer and video game publishing company who have significant retail sales and distribution reach in North America. We will package the current game along with some new assets such as an updated manual, new game map and other goodies and make it available through retail and online stores. It will be retitled, "Beyond Blitzkrieg" as a way to communicate to the market that the game has exceeded the features of the original "Blitzkrieg" release in 2001. We are counting on the success of the re-issue to pave the way for our next retail release which is the North Africa theater. As a premium subscriber you will NOT be required to purchase the new "Beyond Blitzkrieg" version of the game to continue playing. We are targeting Q2/Q3 for the "Beyond Blitzkrieg" release.

We are planning to make "Beyond Blitzkrieg" available outside of North America through a number of publishing/distribution partners in territories such as the UK, France, Germany and Scandanavia. We have secured partners for some specific territories and are finalizing some others. This will be a localized language effort for both the retail box as well as web assets.

We will be providing many more details as they get nailed down. We will be launching "pre-order" and "send-a-friend" programs ahead of the retail release so that our community can help kick off the retail effort and ensure the title gets off to a great start. Look for details in the Announcement forums.

North Africa Expansion Pack in Development
As outlined in our 2004 development roadmap our team has been working to improve on existing and to advance new core technologies needed for taking WWII Online into a next generation of gameplay and to advance beyond the geography of western Europe.

While we haven't completed all our development goals, we have succeeded in taking many of them from drawing board to testing and we are ready to announce that tasks associated with the North African expansion theater have made their way onto our development schedule.

North Africa Expansion Pack, TEII Alpha Test w/ Test Object- click to view QuickTime movie
Please note this movie was created from an alpha build of TEII with North Africa theater data. This does not represent a final terrain build and is using test objects not found in production version. Many new graphic enhancements and features are still not present in this test. What is key here is that the terrain data has been integrated and is much more detailed that our existing data. The elevation detail is done to a 90 meter resolution for example, where as the existing WWIIOL terrain uses data that is colated at 1km

As you are aware, Cornered Rat Software studio, our very small group of developers and producers, are stretched to the limit as we continue bringing our players new features and additional game content on a regular basis. The North Africa theater is a huge project- one we've been committed to and our players have been looking forward to. In order to succeed at delivering the North Africa theater we will need to gain more/new resources and find some more talented people to make it a reality. This development will have an effect on our team's ability to deliver the same amount of updates to the current theater but we are ready to take the risk that our player base will accept and support our development goals for 2005.

The North Africa expansion pack is second behind "Beyond Blitzkrieg" in our retail distribution strategy as outlined above. This will provide us the time and some of the resources needed to achieve our goals and see the North Africa theater available for play in 2005/2006. You can expect to see regular development reports on the North Africa theater from Mo and Gophur following the launch of "Beyond Blitzkrieg". In the meantime, we'll try and slip out a few previews of the work on North Africa as we are able.

We hope you are as excited as we are about the future of WWIIOL. Only through the support of our amazing player community have we been able to advance and grow to realize these new opportunities. A sincere "thanks" from the Rats. Looking for a place to discuss this news? Check out the discussion thread.
